Does hypnotherapy/hypnosis, in any form, for any type of disorder, work?

What hypnosis can not do?

Hypnosis only affects the brain, controlling the thoughts and actions of the person being hypnotized, but it cannot change the human appearance. Hypnosis cannot work to heal the wound, either. It can only relieve pain, reduce stress to help the wound be healed more quickly.

Who can and can’t be hypnotized?

Not everyone can be hypnotized. One study suggests that about 10 percent of the population is highly hypnotizable. Although it’s possible that the rest of the population could be hypnotized, they’re less likely to be receptive to the practice.

Why does hypnosis not work on everyone?

It is unclear why hypnosis does not work for everyone. Some researchers believe that a person is born with character traits that allow hypnosis to work, while other researchers believe that the ability to be hypnotised is a learned skill. Suggestibility doesn’t mean you have a weak character, as popularly believed.
